The Australian Himalayan Foundation launched another successful art exhibition at the Siddhartha Gallery in Kathmandu on 14th February. The exhibition, titled “Smile with Me” and “Through my Stories” marked the fourth series of works produced by recipients of the AHF Art Award. The Australian Ambassador to Nepal H. E. Glenn White did us the honour of opening the exhibition, which was packed with guests including Garry Weare (AHF Director), Carolyn Hamer-Smith (AHF General Manager) and AHF Art Award founder and project manager Margie Thomas. Along with Ambassadors and Embassy staff from the US, Russia, Australia and Norway, the exhibition was well patronised by the local arts communities and art collectors who snapped up a considerable number of works before the exhibition officially opened. Artist Anil Shahi sold most of his paintings whilst Sujan Dangol sold a significant number of his works.
It’s a matter of great pride that many of the artists have gone on to hold further prestigious exhibitions, attract lucrative commissions for work, and partake in international internships after their debut show with the AHF and Siddhartha Gallery.
Here’s what one of our supporters who is an established, accomplished artist herself had to say:
“The paintings are fantastic and some of the most exciting I have seen come out of Nepal . They are fresh , challenging and contemporary and I agree that the artists are really talented. Work like this could be exhibited anywhere in the world and hold its own.”
