For many the Himalaya presents an opportunity to trek beneath the earth's highest peaks and appreciate some of the world's most hospitable cultures. Yet the Himalaya is not just a vast adventure playground. For the local communities it is anything but easy with access to basic health and education services often out of reach. You can make a difference by getting involved with the AHF and helping us improve the lives of the people of the Himalaya.

The Australian Himalayan Foundation invites suitably qualified Australian teachers to volunteer for our flagship education program in the Solu Khumbu (Everest) region of Nepal. The Teacher Training & Quality Education Program supports over 300 primary schools with teacher training and refresher workshops that focus on the delivery of child-friendly teaching.

Volunteers work in conjunction with our local NGO partner in Nepal and will assist local qualified teacher trainers in developing skills and enhancing teaching methods. For more information on our volunteer program in Nepal download our TTQE Volunteers Information form here.

Before applying to volunteer, please ensure you have carefully read the form attached. If you then meet the criteria and feel this program is for you, please fill in the application form and return to Jim Strang, AHF Teacher Training Education Adviser (details contained in the form).

Volunteering opportunities are available from a minimum of three weeks, to a maximum of 12 week placements and volunteers must be at least 25 years old.

Volunteer in Australia
There is always lots of work to be done here in Australia too! We always need help in the office with administrative tasks, organising events and other special projects. We would love you to get in touch if you have some spare time to donate.

By joining as a Supporter will be contributing to our projects on an annual basis and will receive our Yakety Yak enews and updates about Supporter events which are held around Australia.

Our supporters are crucial to our development. We are a community-based, grass roots organisation and have a pool of talented supporters who provide expertise, inspiration and assistance.

Online Fundraising Partners

If you are holding an AHF fundraising event, we would suggest you set up a page through one of the following online fundraising sites to make your fundraising easy:

Setting up your own personal fundraising page is a very quick and easy way to raise funds by seeking the support of your family, friends and colleagues. Once this page is set up, you can email your page link, or contact your friends via social media, asking them to support you in your challenge.

Making a Will not only allows you to remember the people who have been important to you but to also continue support for the organisations close to your heart.

Every gift left allows us to continue helping the people of the Himalaya for years to come and we thank you for thinking of us.

Download a bequest form here or contact our office to discuss the details.

WPG enables employees to donate to the AHF through their payroll system, entitling you to receive automatic tax deductions. Donations received through Workplace Giving can be nominated for specific projects. Get in touch if you would like to arrange a Workplace Giving program with us.

We are a nominated charity with Karma Currency, an online gift registry. Gifts range in value from $20 to $100 in support of a range of our projects.

We are also registered with Spend-Well – an online shopping portal featuring all the major retailers. When you shop online through Spend-Well a percentage of everything you buy goes to your favourite charity, at no additional cost to you. Just select AHF and start shopping!
