Standing with flood-affected communities in Nepal
Donate to help deliver emergency support and supplies to impacted families.
What happened
A catastrophic glacial collapse on Nepal’s Langtang Lirung on August 26 sent a massive ice chunk plunging into the valley below. The impact struck with the force of a 5.2 magnitude earthquake, melting ice and mixing with mountain debris to form a dense and deadly flash flood.
The Lhende Khola, Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers surged by up to 9 meters, destroying homes, communities and essential infrastructure across Rasuwa and Nuwakot and in Tibet.
We are so thankful that all of our local NGO partners, staff and field teams are safe and accounted for. However, thousands of families in the region lost everything in seconds and are now in need of urgent support.

The Himalaya
Disasters of this scale underscore the growing vulnerability of the region, where climate change fuels glacier melt, heightening the risk of extreme disasters like this. We remain dedicated to integrating disaster risk reduction into every program and supporting environmental initiatives that build climate resilience across the World’s Third Pole, where temperatures are rising 50-100% faster than the global average.
