Vintage Garuda Statue
Metal Sculpture 58cm x 48cm, 14kgs
This Garuda Statue is a rare collectible from one of Patan’s master metalworkers acquired by Australia’s first resident Ambassador to Nepal.
This remarkable Garuda statue was acquired by Di Johnstone, Australia’s first Ambassador to Nepal, during her posting from 1987–89. Handcrafted in Patan—a city renowned for its ancient metalworking tradition—this striking piece stands 58 cm high, 48 cm wide, and weighs nearly 14 kg.
Garuda, the legendary protector and mount of the god Vishnu, is revered in Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain traditions. Often seen as a symbol of strength, courage and the power to dispel negative energy, Garuda statues are highly valued for both their spiritual and artistic significance.
Now almost 40 years old, this statue has never been housed in a temple and has been generously donated by Di Johnstone. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Himalayan history and craftsmanship.
Kindly donated by Di Johnstone.
