Vintage Garuda Statue
Metal sculpture, dimensions: 58cm x 48cm, weight: 14kgs.
This Garuda statue is a rare collectible from one of Patan’s master metalworkers acquired by Australia’s first resident Ambassador to Nepal.
This remarkable Garuda statue was acquired by Di Johnstone, Australia’s first Ambassador to Nepal, during her posting from 1987-89 and was handcrafted in Patan, a city renowned for its ancient metalworking tradition.
Garuda, the legendary protector and mount of the god Vishnu, is revered in Hindu, Buddhist and Jain traditions. Often seen as a symbol of strength, courage and the power to dispel negative energy, Garuda statues are highly valued for both their spiritual and artistic significance.
Now almost 40 years old, this statue was commercially bought and has been generously donated by Di Johnstone. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Himalayan history and craftsmanship.
Kindly donated by Di Johnstone.
