It often begins with the mountains. The dream of the Himalaya’s breathtaking scenery and a sense of adventure. But as we know, what truly makes the region unforgettable is the warmth, hospitality, culture and stories of the local people. 

It was the people that inspired Sir Edmund Hillary’s decades of life-changing humanitarian work. The very work that inspired the Australian Himalayan Foundation. As we approach the anniversary of the historic ascent with Tenzing Norgay on 29 May 1953, we invite you to join us for an evening of community and connection, all in support of our education, health and environment programs in this beautiful and remote part of the world.

This year you will be treated to an incredible night featuring some truly remarkable guest speakers who have deep ties to Nepal, Bhutan and Ladakh. Listen to their powerful stories, enjoy delicious local cuisine and celebrate the spirit of the Himalaya with us.

Special Guests

• Alan Hill, Tasmanian ecologist and fire management specialist, will share stories from his work in Nepal with Australian Volunteers International, exploring the similarities and differences between forest fires in Nepal and Australia, and his support of the AHF Fire Fellowship.

• Roger O’meagher, AHF Education Advisor and long-time volunteer teacher trainer coordinator, will share his perspective on the evolution of teaching methods and education in Nepal, and will be our host for the evening.
