The Master 2 - Tashi Lama
Mineral Pigment on Cotton canvas 89.5cmx78.5cm
The Master 2 is one piece from Tashi Lama’s Tana Bana exhibition at the Siddhartha Gallery in Kathmandu
Rooted in his family’s history in Nepal’s carpet industry, Tashi’s practice draws on childhood memories of weaving workshops and the quiet rhythm of artisanal labour. Trained in traditional Thangka painting and contemporary art, he begins each work with a carpet-inspired grid and layers hand-ground mineral pigments to create rich, textile-like textures. His paintings honour the dignity of makers and reimagine Nepal’s craft traditions through memory, precision and care.
Tashi Lama was the recipient of the 2024 Himalayan Art Award
