How the Challenge works:

 

Solo participants will have 29 hours to run/hike the full 44 laps of the course to complete 106km and 9,000m gain.

START from 6pm Friday 03 May                      CUT-OFF is 11pm Saturday 04 May

 

 

Team participants will have 16 hours to run/hike the full 44 laps of the course to complete 106km and 9,000m gain.

START from 7am Saturday 04 May                  CUT-OFF is 11pm Saturday 04 May

 

Please note Neverest is not a relay. Team members can be on  the track concurrently, but you do not need to all start and finish at the same time. Supporters are very welcome. You can leave gear at the top of the hill, there will always be volunteers/AHF staff in attendance, but please note we do not take any responsibility for your gear.

Transport

 

By CAR – we strongly encourage you to carpool with your team or supporters. Limited parking is available at the Camp Mountain picnic area, there is also parking available on the verge along Camp Mountain Rd.

By PUBLIC TRANSPORT – a bit tricky. Try asking for a ride on the Neverest facebook page.

By TAXI – from the city takes around 35 minutes.

Suggested gear

  • Fleece jumper (synthetic or wool)
  • Rain coat
  • Thermals/beanie
  • Electrolyte or sports drink
  • SNACKS YOU LOVE (you’ll be burning roughly 500-1000 calories an hour, so you’ll need to keep well fuelled!)
  • Hydration pack with bladder
  • A change of clothes
  • A collapsible chair or picnic rug
  • Spare socks
  • Strapping tape
  • Band-Aids and blister blockers

Mandatory gear

  • Headtorch (for solos/teams of 2). You will not be permitted on the course after dark without a headlamp
  • Spare batteries. See above.
  • Water bottle or reusable cup (this is a low impact event)

History

 

“Everesting” is running or walking laps of a hill to simulate climbing Everest. The Kathmandu Neverest Challenge is organised by and is a fundraiser for the Australian Himalayan Foundation for their work educating kids and training teachers in rural Nepal. Neverest began in 2015 following the devastating earthquakes in Nepal, and has grown to accommodate over 500 entrants each year. In 2019 Neverest will be staged in 4 unique locations.

The Australian Himalayan Foundation is proud to have Kathmandu as major sponsor of the Kathmandu Neverest Challenge. Kathmandu contributes not just to people going up and down a mountain for hours, but also to kids in Nepal getting a better education, and finding new paths to take in life.
